In the Month of April we learned about insects and spiders in the 2 1/2 year old class. Teaching my little class about insects and spiders pretty much means reading them The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Very Busy Spider by Eric
Carle. They love these books and for the past few weeks during circle time they say "I want the Caterpillar book". They now pretty much know the story by heart so will I read most of a sentence and they fill in the blanks. For example "On Monday the very hungry Caterpillar ate through one red apple but he was still..." and all the kids say "hungry!!!" Another line in the story is this "the caterpillar built a little home around himself called a..." I knew this was a hard one but I wanted to see if they would get it and Elijah says very confidently... "a raccoon!!!"
Today we celebrated
Cinco de Mayo preschool style with some delicious Mexican sweet bread which comes in bright pink and yellow and a pinata or a "
pinyaba" as the kids called it. It was a Sponge Bob pinata (I didn't choose it) and each kid got a chance to brake it. They all got 3 hits and of course it was a very strong
pinyaba and so the teachers later had to finish it off. After all the candy was picked up all that was left on the ground was the yellow tissue paper that was used to make the box look like Sponge Bob. Most of it got cleaned up but at the end of the day my little friend Joyce (a 4
year old) picked up a little piece of yellow tissue paper and when I asked her what she had in her hand she said "it's Sponge Bob skin!"
